Evaluation (Part II)

Hi guys! This is my last post and also the second part of our evaluation. For this, we will use AudioBoo.

In AudioBoo you will record yourself saying what you wrote for the first part of the evaluation. But, bear in mind that you have to create an account on the page in order to be able to send me the audio. This is easy, you have to go to the option that says "Sing Up" and follow the instructions to create your account.

Click here to go to the website.

I will be waiting for your recordings.

Bye guys!!

Evaluation (First Part)

Hello guys! Well, this is one of my last posts and we need to do an evaluation. In order to do this, you will click here and analyze this picture. Watch it carefully.

First, ask these questions:
Is there any library?
Is there any bank?
Is there any cathedral?
Is there any disco?
Is there any school?
Is there any church?
Is there any pub?
Is there any restaurant?

Then, write sentences with two clauses joined by “AND” and “BUT”. The objects that should appear on the same sentences are:
*library- school
*cathedral- church
*restaurant- bank
*disco- pub.

Now, add adjectives to the places that appear on the picture. You can use these: big, beautiful, small, attractive and ugly.

Finally, put all the sentences together in a paragraph to create your descriptions. This is an example:
In this city there is a cathedral but there isn’t a church. There is…

Don’t forget to share your description with us. See you!

AND and BUT

Hello people! In this time we are going to learn the use of some connectors, “AND” and “BUT”.

They will help us to LINK our sentences. In order to understand this, click the picture below:

Here, we can see that the sentences with “but” and “and” have two CLAUSES and we have to focus on them to chose the right connector.

If one of the clauses has to be form in negative and the other in affirmative, we use BUT. For example:
There is an airport BUT there isn’t a railway station.
There aren’t any cafés BUT there are some pubs.

If both clauses are affirmative or negative, we use AND. For example:
There is an airport AND there is a railway station.
There aren’t any cafés AND there aren’t any pubs.

Now, you can practice clicking here. Don't forget to share your score when you finish.

SOME and ANY

Hello everybody! Today we are going to learn the usage of “some” and “any”.

We use SOME to talk about plural nouns and uncountable nouns. The things that appear in a city are always countable because we can count them (one gallery, two canteens, and fourteen factories). For example:
There are some shops
There are some hospitals
There are some zoos.

We use ANY to make questions and negative statements in which plural things and uncountable nouns appear.
There aren’t any bakeries
There aren’t any blocks of flats.
There aren’t any garages.

We can also use “a lot of” when a thing appears repeatedly in a place:
There are a lot of flats
There are a lot of casinos
There are a lot of cemeteries.

Clicking here you will find an exercise to practice. See you soon!

A and AN

Hello guys! Today we are going to learn the usage of “a” and “an”

We use “a” to talk about a singular thing when the next word starts with a CONSONANT. For example:
There is a castle.
There is a fire station.
There is a garage.

We use “an” to talk about a singular thing when the next word starts with a VOWEL. For example:
There is an office.
There is an amusement park.
There is an underground station.

Adjectives!

Hello again! In this time, we are going to learn some adjectives.

To see them, you should click here. There is a list similar to the nouns' list. Try to learn them but as I told you before, it is not necessary for you to learn them now because you will learn them while you practice.

But today our exercise will be different. Click here. Change the options: from "Speak Spanish (Fast)" to "Speak English (Slow)". LISTEN AND REPEAT (you can listen the words again by clicking the option "replay audio"). Then, complete the blank with the word you heard and remember you score. Finally, share it with us!

I wish you luck! See you!

There is and There are.

Hi guys! Now we are going to learn the usage of "there is" and "there are"

"There is" and "there are" are used to indicate that something appears or not in a city. If we want to say that a church appears in a city, we say:
There is a church
And if we want to say that a church does not appear in a city, we say:
There isn't a church

If we want to say that MORE THAT ONE thing appear in a city, we use "there are". For example:
There are some supermarkets.
And if we want to say that only ONE thing appears in a city, we use "there is", for example:
There is a pet shop.

Now that we know how to use "there is" and "there are", we can practice! Click here and try to complete the exercise. Then, you can share your score with us"

This is all by now. Bye!
